In SharePoint 2013 Sites are Saved as Template in the same way as in earlier versions but there are some steps that you need to consider before moving forward. Hide Quick Launch\Left Nav using “Focus on Content” in SharePoint 2013

In the new UI of SharePoint 2013, there is a new button in the top Sharing bar called “Focus on Content” which lets you highlight the Content area by hiding the quick Launch or Left Nav on the page. All you have to is click on the rectangular button with tooltip Focus on Content on a page and that will hide the quick launch. Here is the Before-After for clear picture.
